It was days past since I had wanted to have Mor kuzhambu….
Mom makes a really well-cultured buttermilk at home. She collects cream everyday from boiled milk, and sometimes from homemade curd. She stores them in the freezer until it ferments. She then churns it to extract butter, and the remaining is what we call buttermilk. This whole process takes us a few days.
While I got distracted with my routine, mom was preparing to make buttermilk someday...
It was a very hot summer day and I was playing in our garden casually. Although we have all the traditional devices at home like stone mortar for pounding, grindstone for grinding, paddle to churn butter etc, that day mom was churning the cream in a mixer jar. I heard the mixing sound and went inside the house to see what was happening. The closer I got, by the sound of it I could sense THE Buttermilk and ended up asking mom what she was making out of it.
She said “Mor Kuzhambu”! :D :D
Do you think I got to eat Mor Kuzhambu that day?, watch out.....
