Hello, beloved reader.
While doing some research, I came across a quote by Mark Twain."'Classic'—a book which people praise and don't read." At that time, I moved ahead because I had other things on my plate, but it remained at the back of my mind, which is why later that night I searched for it.
I need to confess that I fancy myself a voracious reader, however there are still many classics that I haven't read, and I could make excuses like I alternate between classic and contemporary fiction, or that I was busy with studies for the better part of my life, or that they are heavy so I alternate them with a light read, or that there are too many classics so I obviously haven't gotten around all of them yet. But they will still remain what they truly are—excuses, and I am an adult so I can't make excuses.
The truth is that I haven't read all the classics yet because I deny myself the pleasure of reading them simply because I am scared that I will go through all of them really quickly, and then I won't have any classics to read, and it's a huge deal when you're reading a classic, that forever becomes a part of you, for the first time, and I don't want to rush it. I want to savour each one of them the way they deserve to be savoured.
I realise that I shouldn't be doing this, because life's short and I don't know how much time I've got left here on this beautiful, blue planet, so I'm no longer going to deny myself the pleasure of reading all those classics. It is my wish to read them all before I die.
You must be familiar with those '100 books to read before you die' lists. Whenever I come across them I check how many I've read, and it has always been my heart's desire to someday go through such a list, and check off all the books, not just a handful.
Now, I will read all the books that I come across, instead of saving them for later because later doesn't exist.
Thank you for reading.
